Worshiping through Music

Music is a gift from God given by the Creator to bring God praise. In worship, music brings
our individual thoughts and desires together so that we might worship God in Spirit and in truth.
We hope you'll consider participating in one of our music programs. We are committed to
striving for excellence and inspiration in our music. For more information about any of our
music programs, please contact the church office at 813-961-4115. We'll be glad to serve you.
CHOIRS
OUR CHANCEL CHOIR:
Our Chancel Choir rehearses every Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. There are no rehearsals during
the month of July. The choir sings each week at the 11:00 a.m. service and for special services
through the church year.
OUR PRAISE BAND:
Our Praise Band leads in worship each Sunday morning at the 8:45 a.m. service with contemporary
songs.
OUR VILLAGE VOICES...Where God's word is spread through song and music:
The children's choir at Village Presbyterian Church is for children 4 years of age and up, including
middle and high school. The children meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.
and enjoy learning God word using instruments, music and games. They routinely perform
six times a year - at both worship services. Both praise songs and hymns are taught and
performed. Many of our children perform solo parts - both in voice and with and
instrument (i.e. piano). Choir robes are worn during the Easter and Christmas performances.
The Village Voices have even performed with our own Praise Band! They also perform for
local assisted living/retirement facilities. Many of our children are also part of our annual
Vacation Bible School program - and always participate in the Friday night (musical) event.
Come, and have fun learning about God's word through music!!
THE SACRAMENTS (Instituted by God and commended by Christ)
COMMUNION:
When we partake of the bread of life and the cup of salvation we are empowered for Christlike living.
We trust in God the Holy Spirit who feed us with the bread of life and the cup of salvation. (Taken from
A Brief Statement of Faith). These words reiterate the importance of the Lord's Supper for Presbyterians.
They affirm that the initial action of this divine meal begins with God. God in Jesus the Christ offers
the bread and the cup and bids us to come. The Sacrament of Communion is served on the first Sunday
OF each month, and the fifth Sunday of each month. This is not a Presbyterian table, all believers are
welcome.
BAPTISM:
"In Baptism, the Holy Spirit bind the Church in covenant to its Creator and Lord. The waters of Baptism
symbolize the waters of creation, of the flood, and of the Exodus from Egypt. Baptism is the sign
and seal of God's grace and covenant in Christ.
Both believers and their children are included in God's covenant of love. The Baptism of children
witnesses to the truth that God's love claims people before they are able to respond in faith.
"As there is one body, there is one Baptism." The Presbyterian Church (USA) recognizes all Baptisms
with water in the name of the Father, the Son, and of the Holy Spirit administered by other Christian
churches.
INSTRUMENTS
HEISSLER ORGAN (OPUS 442)
Our pipe organ is a 21 stop / 23 rank tracker (mechanical action) organ built in 1986 by the Franz
Heissler Organ Company of Germany. The organ has 1,156 pipes ranging in size from 10 feet to
smaller than a pencil. The metal pipes are made of a tin and lead combination while the wooden
ones are made of Swedish pine. The custom designed case is built of solid American white oak.
When a key is pressed, the movement is conveyed via tracker levers (thin strips of wood under
tension) directly to a pallet valve that admits air to the appropriate pipe. This allows the organist
to change the startup sound or "chiff" depending on how the key is struck. In addition, there are
fifty-six Spanish Trompettes mounted horizontally in the center of the case.
