Visitor's Guide

Welcome to Village Presbyterian Church

Our Mission Statement

.......Continuing Christ's work in the world.

Village is a community of Christians who by the authority and
power of Jesus Christ will meet the needs of all who come here.
It is a place where anyone can find the gifts of God's grace,
including love, acceptance, help, hope, forgiveness and guidance.

On behalf of Village Presbyterian Church, we welcome you to our website.  By the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, we are a friendly, caring community seeking to grow in faith and continue Christ's work in the world.  We strive to love God and to love our neighbor as ourselves in all that we do.

Please explore these pages.  We want to share with you who we are and whose we are.  We take seriously Jesus' call to feed the hungry and care for the needy in the world. We equip disciples by encouraging children to learn, youth to explore, and adults to deepen their faith through worship, music, prayer, nurture and educational activities, Bible study, mission experiences, and service in the local community and beyond.  We invite you to come.  Come to discover.  Come to share.  Come to be challenged.  Come to be changed.  Come.

What is Christian Worship?
Our chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.  This reflects a common Christian perspective that all of Christian life is focused on God and on our fellowship with him and other people.   For many Christians, worship is at the heart of our relationship with God, both as individuals and community.  In worship we focus on God; on hearing a message based on the Bible, on prayer, and on the sacraments.  Of course individual Christians can do many of these things in private.  However, in worship we ground our life as a community in a corporate experience of God.

We Worship Together
We gather for worship each Sunday at 8:45 a.m. or 11:00 a.m.  Services are approximately one hour long.  We offer Sunday School classes for all ages at 10:00 a.m.  For the youngest believers -- infants through age 4 -- our nursery is available for all services and during the Sunday School hour.

Children are welcome. Midway through the service is The Children's Chat, where young children are welcome to come up front for a short lesson.  After our Children's Chat, the children are guided by adults to Storytime.

When there is a fifth Sunday in the month, we worship together at 10:00 a.m.  Worship is followed by lunch on the patio; a great time for good food and great Christian fellowship.  Everyone is invited, bring a dish to share if you are able.

Becoming Involved
There are many ways for you to become involved in the life and ministry of Village, and we invite you to participate in any activities that may interest you.  Or, you may wish to simply observe.  Either way, we would like to get to know you.  Please take a moment to introduce yourself to the Pastor after worship; and make sure you sign the Friendship Pad that is passed during our worship service so that we can be in touch with you.

What We Believe
We are Faithful ˜ Orthodox ˜ and Reformed  - We are a congregation that holds closely to traditional understandings of what it means to be a Christian body.  We believe that the Bible is the only infallible or inerrant authority for the Christian faith (Sola Scriptura), and that it contains all knowledge necessary for salvation and holiness.  Consequently Sola Scriptura demands that no doctine is to be admitted or confessed that is not found directly or logically within Scripture.  However, Sola Scriptura is not a denial of other authorities governing Christian life and devotion.  Rather, it simply demands that all authorities are subordinate to, and are to be corrected by, the written word of God.  Sola Scriptura was a foundational doctrinal principle of the Protestant Reformation held by the Reformers and is a formal principle of Protestantism today.  This belief and doctrine guides our life and worship together.

How Do I Become a Member?
We have three steps to membership in our Congregation:
(1) Affirm your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
(2) Attend an orientation session(s) and meet with the Elders and Minister
(3) Participate in the recognition of new members in a worship service with
others who have recently joined.  Please call the Church Office
(813-961-4115) if you are interested in uniting with our Congregation.
